The FSR Series Ball Splines are designed for linear and rotary motion, featuring a flanged ball nut for easy housing installation, efficient torque transmission, and an optimized lubricating channel and retainer design.

When the axis also needs helical motion, the FBR compound type stacks a ball-screw nut beside the spline nut on one shaft. View FBR Type →

  • 181.5 N·m

Dynamic torque rating CT at Ø32

  • 13.7 kN

Support bearing dynamic rating at Ø32

  • 18 µm

P-grade outer ring runout, all sizes

Applications

  • Industrial robot arms
  • Automatic loading and unloading machines
  • Drilling and EDM main shafts
  • Automatic tool table indexing shafts
  • Winding and welding machines
  • Construction vehicle steering shafts

Sizes

FSR is the rotary member of the spline family and starts at 16 mm: four shaft sizes against the five that RS and FS cover (the 13 mm core is cylinder and flange only). Spline load and torque ratings carry across nut types; the FSR table adds support bearing ratings for the outer ring.

Part numbers & options

How a part number reads

SP - 20 - 2 FSR - 400 - 500 - C - S

SP
Ball spline product family
20
Spline shaft outer diameter (mm) — 16, 20, 25, 32 for FSR
2
Spline nuts per shaft (blank = 1)
FSR
Nut type — RS cylinder · FS flange · FSR rotary
400
Length of straight groove (mm)
500
Total shaft length (mm)
C
Accuracy — C normal · H high · P precision
S
Shaft marking — S solid · blank hollow

Accuracy grades

Graded C, H and P by runout against the shaft supports; FSR is additionally inspected for outer ring verticality and runout.

  • C Normal — General torque-transmission duty
  • H High — Repeatable positioning axes
  • P Precision — Ring runout to 18 µm, shaft runout to 9 µm under 200 mm

Clearance & preload

Preload removes rotational clearance before the load arrives; stiffness more than doubles and the effect holds to 2.8x the preload force.

  • — No preload — Smooth small-force drives, torsion in one direction
  • Light 0 - 0.02C — Cantilever or variable loads, repeat accuracy (robot arms, EDM)
  • Medium 0.05C - 0.07C — High stiffness under vibration and moment loads

Shaft execution

  • S Solid shaft — Standard
  • — Hollow shaft — Weight reduction, air or cable pass-through

How buying works

Spec it in the configurator: drawings, 3D CAD, and a quote to follow.

HIWIN series are configured to your application, not bought off the shelf. Start from your loads and speeds if you are still choosing a size.
